How many times have you seen George Thorogood live? More than 10! Favorite show was at Stabler Arena in Allentown Pa when I was 21. And just got to recently see George at the OC Bike Fest last week. Absolutely amazing as usual. George continues to totally Rock!

What’s one thing that sets you apart from other George Thorogood fans?: George was my wife and I's first date...we have been married for 35 years! We have seen George so many times, have taken all of our kids to see George many times. Have been Blessed to meet George on three occasions and am amazed how he was so down to Earth and took the time to talk to me about his life and music. Best exp. of my life every time! Best artist ever!!! I really can't listen to anyone else! Absolutely just can't get enough! Thank you.

April 2022 release is a collection of self-penned classics by
George Thorogood and The Destroyers via UMe

As George Thorogood himself once put it, "I guess a good song is a good song is a good song, you know?" And what we have here is a collection of hard-stompin,' party-down, good songs—all penned by Mr. Thorogood himself. Scheduled for release on April 15, 2022, the aptly named album The Original George Thorogood brings together the best from the rock and roll heart and fevered brain of George Thorogood and his unstoppable, longtime band, The Destroyers. The Original George Thorogood will be released on CD, digitally, and in two vinyl LP configurations, including black vinyl and, for the ultimate collector, a limited-edition Translucent Orange LP. "It's easy to write a song, difficult to write a good song, and even harder to write a great song," Thorogood says. "It strikes home that I have the ability to write some pretty great songs, and there's a real sense of achievement to that."

In the late '70s, Thorogood's badass vocal delivery and grindhouse slide guitar rocketed the Destroyers onto the charts, with two platinum and six gold albums to their credit. Over the course of his 20-album career, Thorogood has won acclaim as an inspired interpreter of timeless classics by masters like Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker, and Hank Williams. But all along the way, he kept honing his own songcraft.

The Original George Thorogood is a celebration of Thorogood as a tunesmith. The album features rock radio blockbusters like "I Drink Alone" and "Rock and Roll Christmas," as well as Thorogood's mega-hit, "Bad to the Bone," which celebrates its 40^th Anniversary this Fall. The latter song has been featured in numerous hit movies, from Terminator 2: Judgment Day to The Muppets, and TV shows including "Married... With Children," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," and "Miami Vice."

For Thorogood – currently touring with The Destroyers on their acclaimed Good To Be Bad: 45 Years Of Rock Tour – as well as for his millions of fans, The Original George Thorogood is a welcome reminder that the pen can be as mighty as the guitar. Longtime blues rockers George Thorogood and the Destroyers kicked off the first of an eight-day Sunshine State-based tour stop, bringing Thorogood’s “Good To Be Bad Tour: 45 Years Of Rock” on Thursday (Feb. 17) to Live at Coco, the new outdoor venue at Seminole Casino in Coconut Creek, Florida.

Sure, at 71, Thorogood isn’t the wild rocker he once was, but from the opening song, he got the crowd going showing everyone he still has the chops to rock out. Getting back to a pre-pandemic normal was the feeling of the night. The guitar slinger got back to basics, serving up his signature guitar riffs that have kept the singer/songwriter’s successful career in the limelight for more than 50 years. On a rainy Thursday night, the Delaware-born singer opened his catalog of hits and delivered a boisterous, blues-based 75-minute set.

At this point of his career, Thorogood is an unapologetic rock-and-roll preacher who isn’t afraid to cut loose with solos with saxophonist Buddy Leach that exemplify the spirit of the veteran rocker. Opening with “Rock Party,” he continued into several drinking-themed tunes including “I Drink Alone,” “House Rent Blues/One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” and “Tequila” that got the rain-soaked crowd moving from side to side. From there, Thorogood got into several uninterrupted guitar-bass-drum combos with longtime Destroyer bandmates bassist Billy Blough and drummer Jeff Simon, a threesome who have worked together since 1976.

George Thorogood’s voice has never been particularly strong; at times he shouted lyrics to some of the his most iconic tunes. The intimate gathering of 1,500 enthusiastic fans got a high-energy rock show that had the bluesman moving all over the stage with the swagger of the George Thorogood of yesteryear. His vintage thick, crunchy, low-down blues-rock guitar tone is what we are used to seeing, and he was on point that night while fingerpicking on his signature Gibson ES-125 guitar.

The band appeared to be having a great time together as they rocked and rolled through plenty of feel-good moments. They plowed through the radio hits that everyone came to hear, including fan-favorite fare like “Who Do You Love?” and “Bad to the Bone.” The frontman showed his guitar prowess on an extended show-stopping solo sans band midway through “Gear Jammer.”

It was great seeing the iconic rocker still on stage delivering a solid rock show. While the show was entertaining, it was pure nostalgia. What can we expect from George Thorogood moving forward? At this point in his career, he has nothing left to prove, and if rocking and rolling is still fun, he and the band should continue to entertain crowds who choose to spend their entertainment dollars getting “Bad to the Bone.”

What is your favorite George Thorogood song: Madison Blues

How many times have you seen George Thorogood live? I've probably seen a dozen shows over the years. My favorite show of all concerts is a GT show. I was 18 years old and just out of High School. Madison, Wisconsin. Halloween night. Bad to the Bone tour. Venue was the brand new Civic center downtown. The band as well as the audience are dressed in Halloween costumes. George appropriately dressed as a skeleton as he is bad to the bone of course. They played a 30 minute version of Madison Blues! Unbelievable! I ran into George and the band after the show out on State Street where there's a party of 30,000 every year. What a show. What a night!

What’s one thing that sets you apart from other George Thorogood fans?: I'm not sure if anything in particular sets me apart from all of the other GT fans but I can say this there isn't a day that goes by where you don't hear at least one GT song in my house. I still have and can fit in the GT concert shirt I bought from the Reelin and Rockin tour from 1986! I also currently need to "Get a haircut and get a real job"!
