Saturday June 6th George Thorogood and Brian Setzer performed in Elgin, Illinois on the Fox River as one stop on their co-billed tour. This
evening of classic blues-rock. rockabilly and smokin' hot guitar-slingin' reminds me of why we love roots music.
Brian Setzer, founding member of the 80's sensation The Stray Cats, opened up ripping through his big hits 'Stray Cat Strut', 'Runaway Boys', 'Rock this Town' and 'Rumble in Brighton'. But also gave a nod to to his influences playing 'Great Balls of Fire', 'Folsom Prisom, 'Blues Moon of Kentucky' and 'Train Kept A-Rollin'. The numbers he played from his recent original release 'Rockabiliy Riot'; 'Stiletto Cool' and 'Vinyl Records' proved without doubt he not only has retained his sognwriting chops but they are as impressive as ever.
Setzer's Band:
Keyboards: Kevin McKendree
Drums: Noah Levy
Closing the concert George Thorogood & The Destroyers broght it home with a 90 minute set traversing his catalogue of favorites such as 'Won't Love Nobody Else', 'Who Do You Love', One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer', 'Bad to the Bone', 'Get a Haircut', 'Tail Dragger' and 'Move It on Over'. Pure energy, Thorogood connects with the crowd at all levels embodying the blues master that he is as well as the right candidate to keep the rock and blues music alive for generations to come.
The Destroyers:
Jeff Simon – drums, percussion
Billy Blough – bass guitar
Jim Suhler – rhythm guitar
Buddy Leach – saxophone, piano
